my favorite from new catalogue HK living

I'm getting into spring feeling, which means I would like to change things at home, clean , paint the walls and just refresh our space. The living room needs some serious changes! 

When I've seen the new HK living catalogue last week, I was very much inspired by the simple and minimal look. This Dutch brand is running since 2009, but most of the time their life style, was much more colorful and full of textures, this one is a bit 'cold' and its really appealing to me. I would love to hang this big ball in our living room! To hide and to read some magazines, and I think boys would get crazy about it too. New, big picture on the wall, is really needed here! I always liked the HK living hooks, I'm so surprise we didn't get them yet. I think we definitely need something new for our hall way. And the last small things, Lab Lamps - in different colors, especially black with yellow, look nice, when putted together.

COMING kids - Dutch furniture for kids

Coming kids is one of the leading companies which produces children furniture in The Netherlands. 

So what is the standard children's furniture looking out here? I will say sturdy and robust. In Dutch language it will be more " landelijk" , which I can simply translate : rustic - plattelands. Not really the minimal and elegant style,  I like the most. The checks pattern in textile in children's deco, is also something very " Dutch" . 

My favorite piece of furniture, from Coming kids collection is  "growing with child" changing room, which you can transform into desk or wardrobe. Very smart system and actually I haven't seen anything like that before. Great idea!

Kids' Design book from BRAUN

We are very proud that Rafa-kids' beds are featured in KIDS' DESIGN 

book by Michelle Galindo released by Swiss publisher Braun. 

The volume: 

" ... presents a selection of the most innovative designs for children, 

from novelties to established classics. It is for all parents who value great design and want to pass it on to their children."

We find it amazing that being only 1,5 years on the market we are standing between such a good companies as Oeuf or Kalon Studios.

There is plenty of other great products for kids in this book but I cannot take pictures of it all :)

let's play under Rafa-kids bunk bed !

Forget the time, when a bed needed to be standing in the corner of the child's room! 

We are putting Rafa-kids F bunk bed in the middle of the space and create a playful, cosy and fun room to use. Don't you think that the space under bunk bed is perfect to play and create your child's magic world ? It's not only pleasant to look at, it's actually so great to put it in action! 

And yes, we are a parents of two boys, and  they love cars, and they love to play on the floor a lot and use pillows to make fights!  The dark bed can be actually a very cosy and nice background for all the toys we have in a child's room! 

When you look at my mood board: 

To create this space I wanted to paint one wall in gray color, to calm a bit the dark tone of the bed. Then I used red accents to make it playful. A lot of different pillows, black&white ones to make it a bit graphic. Favorite poster, some boxes for storage and a lot of space to play!  Our boys didn't want to leave the studio when they saw what we made for them, with their toys and books!

plywood & vtwonen huiscollectie

Do you like the natural look of plywood ? 

  I'm a big fan of this material , especially birch plywood which we also use for Rafa-kids furniture. Plywood is an easy material to work with and also strong. Dutch magazine vtwonen has their own home collection of furniture and accessories.  One of the series includes a simple plywood furniture. They are delivered in raw version, so you can paint it in any way you would like. I especially like the  shelf system ( plywood board and then small shelfs attached to it)  . So simple ideas, that accully its easy to make it yourself.  ;)

Green in children's rooms

Today I would like to show you this beautiful boy's room from Maaike Koster. 

  She is a graphic designer and interior stylist and you can find her website here :  mydeer.  This room has a great white basis and then Maaike  plays with only few elements. The green wardrobe is the biggest eye cacher + old trunk and a very unique toddler bed. This big elements actually make the room so special. Different tones of green used with smaller elements around it complete the whole look.  Maaike has definitely an eye for details - look at the green mushroom lamp , green pillow inside the bed, everything matched so well. Very well done. 

The second room is also having a nice natural colors basis. Designed by Nicole Rosenberg  for Little Liberty .Graphic posters give this room  playful character. Again we see different tones of green : side table, posters, pillows, they all bring richness to this modern and simple room. The last  baby room, has a green wall paper with animal shapes, puff and a nice plaid, also mix of green tones. Green is very positive and playfully color and I'm surprised I don't see it more often in children's rooms. My 3 years old son would love it!

favorite designer / part 3 - Christien Meindertsma

Knit, knit, knit…big, big, big…..

It's a wool time. Long winter days at home. 

I like work of Christien Meindertsma for a long time already. She is using such large-scale pieces of yarn from an organic flock of sheep to make the texture and patterns really tangible. Very beautiful.
